HR urged to engage with CEO's to inspire change

Human resources (HR) professionals have been warned that they lack credibility to lead for change in an organisation and urged them to rally around their chief executives.

The warning came from former director-general at the BBC, Greg Dyke, who stated that the only way HR could inspire change was for them to be led from the front, Personnel Today reports.

Mr Dyke, who was speaking at the Public Sector People Managers Association (PPMA) conference in Brighton, told HR professionals:

"You can't do this on your own. If your chief executive is not prepared to stand up and lead then you in HR don't stand much chance of leading meaningful change."

He then went on to describe how, at the time of his arrival, the BBC was blighted by management but had a lack of leadership.

The PPMA represents the professional interests of HR professionals within the public sector.
