Basic skills training recommended to tackle technology-led workplace

Honing basic employer skills such as writing and numeracy is a must in an increasingly technology-led world, it has been suggested.

Marcus du Sautoy, a professor of maths at Wadham College Oxford, pointed out that his subject in particular is rising to prominence in major sectors including IT, business, finance, engineering and medicine.

"The technology that is being used to change our voices into zeroes and ones - that is all using maths," he remarked to BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

"Our world is built on the internet, on mobile phones, on new gadgets and that is all maths," he added.

The professor's advice echoes suggestions from web 2.0 security specialist WorkLight earlier this month, also regarding technology-related training requirements.

Representatives for the organisation explained to Online Recruitment magazine that management training should also be considered to maximise the knowledge of an estimated 50 per cent of bosses who do not currently understand the benefits of web 2.0 technology. ADNFCR-1303-ID-18629006-ADNFCR
