Committee to investigate skills in IT

A new government committee is to investigate what is being done within the IT sector to improve workplace skills.

The Innovation, Universities and Skills (IUS) Committee will be asking electronics firms to come forward with skills and innovation proposals, Electronics Weekly reports. These could well include suggestions for contract law training, or performance management training.

"The committee will need to know exactly what the industry wants government to do and what government is going to do about it," said Dr Ian Gibson, a Labour MP and committee member.

"I look forward to them giving us a submission on these issues."

He added: "The electronics industry is a vital part of the UK economy. It is clearly one of the areas we will be looking at. Skills in the electronics industry are vital to its success."

The committee was formed after the shake-up of the former Science and Technology Committee.
