Change Management Training Is Increasingly Important
Organisational changes within companies take place far more frequently these days than they used to, meaning that change management training is increasingly important.
While in the past firms may see major organisational change once a decade, these days most managers experience change to one degree or another every year.
The importance of adequate management training programmes was emphasised by Jane Turner, associate dean of Newcastle Business School.
"If change is managed badly, people disengage, and this can severely damage productivity," she told Personnel Today.
Companies now accept that they are going to have to train those who are not equipped to deal with change, and they are therefore more and more interested in finding out what training will help their people manage change smoothly.
"The first step in any change management programme should be to assess the capability of the organisation's leaders to envisage, design and lead change," said Petra Wilton of the Chartered Management Institute.
"If there are gaps in the team's ability, then they must be filled by recruitment or training. This type of training is at the heart of leadership development training.
"You can train someone to develop and implement a clear vision. Yet too few organisations take this first stage seriously enough. They begin with a flawed, ill-considered vision and then wonder why it doesn't worked out."
After this, the responsibility typically passes down to middle management to actually implement the change.
Delegation training can help you to lead your staff in a way that gets the best from them, boosting morale and productivity.
