Performance Management Essential For Employee Engagement

Delegation Training can help you to engage your staff in a way that boosts morale and productivity.

Companies should ensure that they have a good performance management system in place, if they are to encourage their staff to be enthusiastic.

That is according to David MacLeod and Chris Brady, authors of a new book entitled 'The Extra Mile - How to engage your people to win', who stress that many employees these days are disengaged from the job in hand, the Financial Times reports.

The website also cites figures from Towers Perrin suggesting that only 21 per cent of employees worldwide feel engaged in their work.

MacLeod and Brady investigate the best ways to increase engagement levels, and successful companies tend to be those where employees respect management, and are in turn treated with respect themselves.

Bad performance management merely encourages employees to game the system, which in turn leads to more intense performance monitoring and an erosion of trust. This suggests that performance management training is worthwhile.

Other steps the authors suggest companies can take include making their presence felt on the front line, starting real conversations with employees, and getting managers to manage like human beings.
