M&S Wins Employment Contract Dispute With Employee

Marks and Spencer has won a dispute with a former employee who refused to work on Sundays, icCoventry.co.uk reports.

The dispute may never even have occurred if the company's employees had undergone thorough Interview Skills Training.

Shah Koravano, an Iranian employee who had worked at the Coventry city centre M&S store for 18 months, objected to working on Sundays. He said he wanted to spend more time with his family, and said that getting to work was more difficult on the Sabbath.

He resigned, adding that one of the reasons he did so was because he had been unfairly treated because of his Iranian background.

Representing the clothing and food store, James Boddy said that there had been no racial discrimination on the part of Marks & Spencer.

He also said that Sunday work was part of Mr Koravano's contract. The employee's claims were dismissed at a Birmingham employment tribunal.
