Employment law: Training 'may need to take AWC into account'
16 February 2009
Results published by the Agency Work Commission (AWC) could lead to a new need for employment law training.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has met with Pat McFadden, employment relations minister, to discuss the findings, which could affect human resources practices.
Kevin Green, the organisation's chief executive, claims the meeting was "hugely significant" and could lead to changes to legislation requiring equal treatment of these employees.
He states: "The current economic climate makes it even more important to get UK implementation right and we are able to go through a number of practical recommendations on how to define equal treatment."
The minister has welcomed the report and described the consensus between recruitment agencies and businesses as very helpful.
Following the sacking of 850 workers by BMW, joint leader of Unite Derek Simpson has called on the government to protect agency labourers.
Human resources staff could require additional employment law training if these changes are implemented.
