Employment law training: New disciplinary process begins April 6th

03 April 2009

New employment law training could be necessary following the implementation of a new disciplinary and grievance issue process comes into affect on April 6th.

The replacement is designed to minimise the number of people going to employment tribunals and hopes to simplify the current system.

Bridget Prentice, justice minister, says that the goal is for it to become easier and quicker for disagreements to be resolved in the workplace.

She states: "Even where this is not possible, it will still mean a quicker and more streamlined approach for those claims that do end up at the tribunal."

Ben Wilmott, senior public policy adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, has welcomed the move and says he is optimistic that workers will benefit.

Employment law training was highlighted earlier this month by the pushing back of the decision date regarding the European Union Working Time Directive.

The government opposes the removal of the UK's opt-out clause, allowing employees to work more than 48 hours a week.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19108125-ADNFCR
