Employment law training: New legislation 'could affect businesses'

14 April 2009

Employment law training could be needed to keep human resources staff up to date on this month's new legislation, an expert states.

Paul Griffin, employment law partner at Norton Rose, tells the People Bulletin that changes to holiday allocation will not affect too many companies.

He says that most employers offer 28 days leave to their workforce, so the increase will have little practical affect.

Those businesses which fail to provide this to their staff could be in contravention of the European Union Working Time Directive, he warns.

"Existing employees who are not currently entitled to 5.6 weeks leave should be notified of the changes," he advises.

Mr Griffin tells the news provider that companies offering payment in lieu for those who do not take their full allocation are at risk of being ordered to pay compensation.

Earlier this month, employment law training was highlighted by the implementation of a new disciplinary and grievance issue process on April 6th.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19119383-ADNFCR
