Employment law training: Right to request flexible working extended
06 April 2009
Parents of children up to the age of 16 are now entitled to request flexible working from their employers, which could create a need for employment law training.
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) has announced that a number of new measures have come into affect today (April 6th).
Companies which pay their workers beneath the national minimum wage will now receive automatic penalties and annual leave rights have extended from 24 to 28 days.
Pat McFadden, employment relations minister, claims that the introduction of flexible working has been a success and the extension to this will help parents with both their work and family life.
He states: "Firms can still say no if they have legitimate business concerns, but more than 95 per cent of all requests for flexible working from working parents and carers are now accepted."
Earlier this month, the government announced that it is standing its ground on the Working Time Directive opt-out, which could interest those with employment law training.
