Employment law training: TUC calls for vigilance against racist redundancies
24 April 2009
Employment law training has been highlighted by a representative group which has emphasised the importance of ensuring companies do not take part in discriminatory practices.
Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), has highlighted the fact that it is the most vulnerable who bare the brunt of recruitment and redundancy discrimination.
He tells the organisation's Black Workers' Conference in Scarborough that unions must be on their guard to ensure that companies are not engaging in these illegal practices.
Mr Barber says the TUC's members must be prepared to tackle institutional racism and guarantee fair treatment for everybody.
He states: "That's why unions need to be on their guard against discriminatory practices in critical areas such as redundancy and recruitment
All of us need to speak up for the most vulnerable in our society."
In other news, the government has announced it will be including the requirement for companies to implement gender pay audits in the equalities bill which will be published on Monday.
