Employment law training: The Apprentice, contracts and the real world
02 April 2009
Employment law training would identify a number of problems with popular TV programme The Apprentice, a commentator asserts.
People Management reports that the departure of one of the contestants before the show had begun would leave an employer in the real world with the decision of whether to pursue a legal remedy for breach of contract.
It states that while a company could sue for damages, in many cases this would not be in the business' best interest due to the cost of taking the case to court.
The news provider comments: "It would only be worth it in circumstances where the employer had substantial and quantifiable financial losses."
After a job offer has been accepted, a binding contract is created which works both ways and employee and company must observe its terms and condition, it adds.
Lewis Sikin's associate for employment and incentives Alexandra Mizzi recently told the news provider that an organisation needs a strong understanding of employment law if it is to dismiss a senior executive for wrongdoing.
