Employment law training needed in many firms
28 April 2009
Employment law creates a significant problem for almost half of UK's smallest firms, according to a new survey, suggesting many may need more training on the issue.
Figures gained in a British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) survey of 3,400 small businesses found 47 per cent of firms with fewer than five employees have problems with the legislation.
The research showed these companies have issues navigating the employment law, suggesting many need more training on the topic.
David Frost, director general of the BCC, said more help needs to be given to British firms to help them overcome this burden.
In a speech delivered to the industry group's annual convention, he adds that the government often looks to solve this confusion with more legislation.
"Not least in the area of employment law. The result of this will mean that it will take longer to get out of recession and companies will be loathe to take on more employees," Mr Frost told the conference.
Companies undertaking employment law training should also focus on the new status of mediation, after dispute resolution regime legislation altered this month.
