Half of recruiters 'ignore employment law training'

12 March 2009

An anonymous survey reveals that nearly half of human resources managers admit they consider age and gender when recruiting staff, emphasising the importance of employment law training.

Research commissioned by www.hirescores.com examined 416 UK business managers and found 92 per cent would choose a married man over an equally-qualified pregnant woman.

Furthermore, eight per cent admit they would choose their candidate depending on their perception of how hard they would work and their ability to fit within the company's team dynamic.

Lisette Howlett, managing director of the researcher, claims managers are ignoring their employment law training and avoiding these individuals.

She states: "It is, however, an extremely controversial topic and managers who openly question women about their home life need to be extremely careful and ideally reconsider their interviewing strategy."

Earlier this month, the European court of justice referred the question of compulsory retirement age to the UK high court.

It ruled that the limit would be acceptable if there was a legitimate social policy or employment aim served through its presence.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19071881-ADNFCR
