Study: Co-workers need training

28 November 2007

A new study suggests that half of all people think their colleagues need more training to do their jobs properly, suggesting a huge need for customer service training and contract law training.

The Association of Colleges (AoC) conducted a survey of more than 1,200 people, and found that 53 per cent thought that many of their work mates needed more training.

However, and perhaps unsurprisingly, only 30 per cent said that they personally needed more training to do their own jobs properly.

Almost two-thirds (64 per cent) of respondents said that the government ought to do more to encourage employers to create an annual training programme for staff, and 57 per cent said that they would use an independent career advice service if they had access.

Sue Dutton of the AoC said: "These fascinating findings indicate that the appetite for training among the British workforce runs in tandem with real regret at missed opportunities."

The AoC's annual conference took place at the ICC in Birmingham earlier this month, with speakers including Sir Bob Geldof and kids TV presenter Floella Benjamin.
