'HR uses sales and marketing for recruitment'

08 April 2008

Human resources (HR) professionals believe recruitment processes are increasingly becoming sales and marketing initiatives, a survey has found.

In a poll by Webster Buchanan Research, 85 per cent of respondents said they 'strongly agree' or 'agree' that recruitment should be viewed as a sales and marketing exercise rather than a HR administrative process, Onrec.com reports.

Furthermore, 87 per cent of people questioned said they 'strongly agree' or 'agree' that HR should communicate with their sales and marketing colleagues to improve their recruitment processes.

The internet is a useful tool for extending the reach of recruitment campaigns and marketing companies creatively, the survey also found.

"These findings reflect the fact that recruitment is about both effectiveness and efficiency," said Christopher Berry, managing director at Computers In Personnel.

The news follows calls by HR guru Dave Ulrich to delegates at the CIPD Scottish Conference that HR professionals must focus on all aspects of business during their work.
