3,000 votes cast for firm with worst customer service
17 December 2008
A campaign aiming to name and shame the worst providers of customer service in UK industry is nearing the end of voting.
The Daily Mail's Wooden Spoon Award will close on December 19th and the firm with the most votes from its shortlist will be sent the prize.
Companies whose poor levels of customer service have led them to be nominated are Abbey, British Gas, British Telecom, Nationwide, RBS/Natwest, Sky, Thomson Holidays and Virgin Media.
So far, more than 3,000 votes have been cast and the prize-winner will be announced on New Years Eve.
The chief executive of the losing company will be sent a three ft wooden spoon, asked to comment on the reasons for their poor customer service and given the opportunity to report how they intend to improve their customer care during 2009.
Among the chief issues are overseas call centres, unsympathetic staff and the feeling these are provided to field complaints rather than deliver solutions to them.
