Customer service training: Big firms 'should follow small shops' leads'

02 June 2009

Big businesses should take a leaf out of the consumer care provided by small shops and invest in customer service training, it has been suggested.

Alan Twigg, spokesperson for My Shop is Your Shop, claims that this trend can be explained by the personalised service that users of these facilities receive.

He says that the sector has concentrated on improving the value these stores offer, including improving consumer care, which highlights the importance of customer service training.

"The icing on the cake is that someone stops and speaks to them. They ask for help, they ask for something specific that they don't see, then someone will stop and speak to them," he asserts.

Mr Twigg says that these industries are able to compete with larger supermarkets due to this focus.

The Smiles of Britain campaign has recently been launched in an effort to highlight great examples of consumer care, highlighting the value of customer service training.
