Customer service training: Ofgem calls for more consumer care

10 August 2009

As part of a series of proposals, the UK's energy regulator has suggested introducing penalties for firms that fail to provide sufficient consumer care, highlighting the value of customer service training.

Ofgem suggests that those companies that do not improve their connections services should face fines.

The package it proposes claims to add less than £4 to the average electricity bill and will contain rewards for businesses that successfully improve their consumer care, highlighting the value of customer service training.

Alistair Buchanan, chief executive of the watchdog, claims that the suggestions are tough but fair.

He states: "In return for higher prices, we expect even better customer service and reduced carbon emissions … Our new customer standards package will bring a step change in electricity network services."

In other news, homeowner Margaret Farrell recently wrote a letter to the Leicester Mercury about the way she was treated by Southern Electric, highlighting the need for customer service training.
