Customer service training needed badly
06 December 2007
Customer service training is particularly badly needed in an age where it sometimes seems like it is 'cool' to be rude.
TheReporter.com in California found that many shoppers blamed poor customer service on the fact that teenage workers were often not trained well.
This may be true in many cases, but readers wrote in to express their views and some thought that it was also young adults aged between 20 and 40 who were most in need of some customer service training.
"I don't believe that teenagers are the root of all bad customer service," said Shandi Nicole Anderson from Vacaville High School.
"I think that saying teenagers aren't responsible or nice is half the problem. No one, including me, is going to be motivated to do good work when people have pre-determined thoughts. Most of the bad service I've ever gotten has been from young, bitter adults."
Marlena Griffin of Saint Mary's College of California added: "Customer service seems to go down in quality during the holiday season. I think it is because of a lack of training, since so many extra employees are needed and usually receive very little training."
