Fife chippie scoops training prize
25 January 2008
A fish and chip shop in Fife has won the prize for staff training and development at the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition.
Anstruther Fish Bar, which employs 40 staff, was awarded the prize at a ceremony at London's Lancaster Hotel, Personnel Today reports.
Training offered by the shop includes modern apprenticeships in business administration, Scottish Tourist Board customer service training, and fish and chip cooking skills.
"The winning shop has robust training standards in place and really stood out as an excellent example of a shop giving something back to its staff," said Richard Wardell of Seafish, the sector training operator.
"As well as staff appraisals, external and internal training, the management team also encourages staff to input ideas to the business and work their way up the career ladder."
Owner Alison Smith said: "Our most important asset is our staff. They work extremely hard to maintain our reputation as one of the top chippies in Scotland."
