Glasgow gives officers customer service training
11 August 2009
A major Scottish city is giving its community enforcement officers customer service training to expand their role, a source reveals.
Glasgow City Council will now expect these employees to become city centre ambassadors, as they will also have been taught to give tuition on the area's most popular visitor attractions, Public Servant Scotland reports.
It is hoping that the city will become the premier shopping destination after the West End in London.
The local authority has pledged a total of £4 million to improve the physical environment of the space, which alongside the customer service training of the staff aims to make the area more attractive.
Steven Purcell, leader and chairman of Glasgow city marketing bureau, tells the news provider that the city is well-positioned to recover following the recession.
He states: "The city centre is Glasgow's shop window and commercial heart. It is the drive and commitment of the Style Mile partners that will ensure the city retains its position as the top UK retail destination outside the West End."
In other news, the Press has reported that workers at the City of York Council have received accreditation for their high levels of consumer care, highlighting the value of customer service training.
