Guardian to honour effective customer service training

29 May 2009

The Guardian Public Services Awards have been launched, with the newspaper finding people who have invested in customer service training for one of their categories.

David Brindle, public services editor at the Guardian, said the public can get involved in the awards by encouraging organisations to enter and also vote for the public servant of the year award.

The Innovation and Progress gong is an accolade for customer service, which will reward organisations who have invested in customer service training and boosted client relations.

Last year's winner in the category was Glasgow City Council, which described it as a "great honour" to be recognised.

Sharon MacPherson, debt strategy officer from the local authority, said: "This accolade has added value to work that normally takes place outside of the public spotlight and has been a fantastic boost for the project team, who undertake very challenging work with enthusiasm and commitment."

The closing date for applicants is July 17th, with the winners announced at a ceremony on November 24th.

Judges on the panel this year include Jo Causon, from the Institute of Customer Service, Paul Hodgkin from Patient Opinion and the newspaper's own Polly Toynbee.
