HR workshops benefit Orange staff

19 February 2008

Human resources (HR) staff at Orange attended workshops to enhance their understanding of the company ahead of the launch of a new website.

As the site, launched in November last year, was designed to help applicants understand the advantages of working at Orange compared with its competitors, the mobile communications giant wanted to ensure its HR team would be effective representatives for the company, reports Personnel Today.

David Roberts, employer brand manager, told the news source: "It is vital that our HR department understands what our key employment offer is for potential candidates - because they interact with staff and potential staff on a daily basis."

The company ran workshops with HR so they could understand how we were trying to reach potential recruits and we needed to "turn the HR team into ambassadors" for what the company is trying to achieve, he added.

Research by Employment Review in January revealed a growth in the number of HR staff over the past two years.

Two-thirds of the 151 organisations surveyed were found to have a director, usually with a seat on the company's main board, to head their HR department.
