IT workers 'missing out' on training

07 February 2008

The majority of IT professionals in the UK are unaware that they could be training for a chartered accreditation, despite the fact that most feel it would benefit them to do so.

The British Computing Society (BCS) offers a Chartered IT Professional credential. However, new research by accelerated training specialist Firebrand Training revealed that 91 per cent of UK IT workers are unaware of its existence.

Rob Chapman, chief executive of accelerated training company, said: "Most industries benefit from having a chartered accreditation, and IT is no exception. But many professionals are missing out, simply because they haven't heard of it.

"It's imperative technical skills are kept up to scratch – and accreditation is a great way to prove this on a level playing field. Chartered status could be the best-kept secret in IT – but by keeping it so low profile, the BCS is missing a major trick."

Firebrand Training said that the BCS would have to find a much more dynamic way to promote the Chartered IT Professional credential to those working within the IT industry, if IT professionals are to have the opportunity to prove their commitment to developing their technology skills.
