Stress can be alleviated by training

23 November 2007

As many as one in three employees find that stress at work affects their health, but training could help to alleviate this.

It is a well-recognised fact that in-house training programmes can do a lot to boost morale, as they offer staff career steps and open up new possibilities.

Insurance company Legal & General conducted a poll of more than 2,000 peope and found that a quarter said they were generally stressed at work, with a third having health concerns, Personnel Today reports.

As well as this, two in ten said they worked too many extra hours, and many said they never took a break at work.

This can result in absenteeisim, but customer service training, telephone and writing skills training, and other forms of training could help with this.

"Staff absence can have a major impact to a company's bottom line," said Legal & General's Vanessa Sallows.

"So working with independent specialists we have helped companies to significantly reduce their staff absenteeism and get employees back into work."
