Supermarkets praised for customer service training

09 June 2009

A number of supermarkets have been praised for their high levels of customer service in a recent survey of the retailers.

The research from Prophet, a global consultancy company, commended Sainsbury's in a number of categories, including location, excellent design and client care, which may be due investment in customer service training.

Based on mystery shopping research, the results highlighted Waitrose as the top chain in terms of meeting shopper expectations, which were deemed to be higher than many other chains.

Tesco may have also invested in customer service training as it was commended for the capabilities of its aisle staff.

Vanessa Cohen, a partner at Prophet, highlighted the fact Marks & Spencer dropped below many of its competitors.

She said: "The research is not saying that the customer experience at Marks & Spencer is below average. It's saying that compared to what customers expect from Marks & Spencer, the customer experience is not as good as it should be."

LDPBusiness.co.uk recently suggested that customer service training and good price are most likely to retain customers after the transaction.
