Virgin Atlantic 'provides best customer service in its industry'
21 January 2009
Virgin Atlantic has been selected as the best provider of customer service in the aviation industry.
The accolade was presented by the Institute of Customer Service (ICS) and recognised the British airline at the UK Customer Satisfaction Awards last week, with British Airways finishing second.
Among the factors which the public were asked to vote on were companies' complaint handling, staff friendliness and professionalism.
The awards, which ranked the UK Customer Satisfaction Index's three best performing firms for 11 sectors, judged between a total of 33 organisations.
Steve Ridgway, Virgin Atlantic's chief executive, says the company was established in 1984 in an attempt to "revolutionise the customer experience".
He states: "Winning the ICS award at the start of our 25th birthday year is testament to our ongoing commitment to this philosophy."
In another poll, the ICS recently found local government departments, utilities and the telecommunications industry to be among the worst-performing sectors for customer service.
