Welsh public service staff receive recognition for training

29 February 2008

Staff from Blaenau Gwent council's social service's department have been congratulated after gaining training qualifications.

The achievements of more than 100 staff - who have administration, management and care roles - were recognised at the annual Blaenau Gwent Social Services awards, the Gwent Gazette reports.

Councillor Haydn Trollope, the council's executive member for social services, said: "Our staff have made a tremendous effort to gain further qualifications so they can provide even better service for vulnerable people across Blaenau Gwent – well done to everyone."

Sixteen staff gained an NVQ in business administration, seven gained management qualifications and 60 staff were awarded health and social care qualifications.

Targets for qualifications and training of staff across Wales have been set by the Welsh Assembly and the Care Council for Wales.

Meanwhile, a recent survey carried out by Train to Gain has revealed that one-third of the one thousand people polled think the extra day - February 29th - should be dedicated to staff training.
