'Employees denied training'

09 April 2008

Employees do not always receive the training they ask for, a survey has revealed.

In poll of more than 300 people by recruitment company Brook Street, 28 per cent said that they had asked for training while in their current job but had not been given any, while 27 per cent said they were not aware of any training opportunities at their workplace, Onrec reports.

In addition, 19 per cent claimed that there were no training schemes available to them.

Erika Bannerman, sales and marketing director at Brook Street said: "The survey results reveal the importance of training and development for employees."

Meanwhile, opportunities for personal growth, training and good relationships with managers were found to be top priorities at KPMG, the company that gained first place in the Sunday Time's poll to find the nation's best workplaces.

The company received the highest score - 80 per cent positive - for personal growth from employees compared to other organisations which took part in the survey.
