'Few firms invest in leadership'
18 November 2008
Very few organisations invest in leadership training for their managers, it is claimed.
Training commentator John Adair makes his comments to online resource Training Zone, asserting that many companies are under pressure and therefore neglect their management training and leadership programmes.
However, he argues that successful leadership training can help build a "spirit" of success.
"The best trainers are the ones that not only instruct and help people build into their own repertoire the body of knowledge about leadership, but also inspire and make people want to fall in love with leadership," Mr Adair continues.
Earlier this month, the head of human resources at the Metropolitan Police Martin Tiplady said it is important to offer specific leadership skills training in companies where it is not enough to simply manage people.
Speaking at the HR Director's Club event, organised by Personnel Today, he called for firms to equip their managers with the leadership skills training they need.
