'Managers have people skills training'

14 March 2008

Leaders at a global charter services company have completed a training programme to improve their people skills.

Some 60 senior and fast-track managers from Air Charter International were sent on a four month course with Global Management Consultants.

Training included advice on how to manage older peers, how to say 'no' to staff and how to initiate more meetings with and communication amongst employees.

Saira Akbar, trainer and chief executive at Global Mangement Consultants, said that prior to the training, one to one in-depth meetings revealed that most of the executives lacked self awareness.

"Emotional intelligence is another significant aspect, which plays a much larger role than most people realise. In today's time, managers and supervisors who are better aware of their strengths and weaknesses and are willing to work on them tend to be better leaders," he added.

Meanwhile a recent report by the Kenexa Research Institute (KRI) showed that measures such as goal development, regular feedback from managers and progress tracking have a positive effect on employee job satisfaction and motivation, reports Management Issues.
