'Managers uninspiring and inconsistent'
04 April 2008
UK workers find their managers uninspiring and inconsistent, a new survey has found.
In a poll of more than 2,300 employees across a variety of sectors by the Work Life Balance Centre and Coventry University, just 4.1 per cent of people questioned found their managers inspirational, while 17.7 per cent said they find them demotivating.
The 24-7 Work Life Balance Survey also found that only 7.2 per cent felt their managers were consistent while 20.3 per cent said they were inconsistent.
Similarly, less than a tenth of respondents regarded their bosses to be open with just over a fifth considering them to be secretive.
The survey's findings concur with research published by Investors in People, which found that less than a third of UK employees have complete trust in their managers.
Conducted by YouGov, the poll revealed that 49 per cent of workers believe managers are most likely to let them down by failing to provide the support needed to do their job, 48 per cent believe they fail to respond to concerns expressed by employees and 45 per cent feel they withhold information which impacts on them.
