'People issues hamper productivity'
29 April 2008
Nine out of ten chief executives believe "people issues" within the workplace are hampering productivity, a report claims.
The poll of more than 1,150 chief executives by financial services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers found "the people agenda" to be a prime concern with human resources (HR) blamed for the problem, Management Issues reports.
"With the establishment of shared service operations to handle increasing amounts of the traditional transactional HR role, the future of the function relies increasingly upon its ability to establish a high level of strategic business presence. To date it has largely failed to do so," the report said.
Meanwhile, UK-based think-tank the Adecco Institute recently claimed that HR professionals must adapt to be able to cater for changing employment trends.
After studying 5,000 HR professionals, the company concluded that the industry must adopt a new role if it is to successfully manage the talent of skilled workers as more opportunities arise for employees to work across the globe.
