Appraisals training 'can help firms identify and retain talent'

20 May 2009

Management learning such as appraisals training can be used to help firms retain talent, an organisation asserts.

Dr Alan Bourne, director of people assessment agency Talent Q, claims that identifying strongly capable members of staff and working on their development should be a priority.

He suggests that redundancies mean that companies are not getting the most out of their employees, suggesting that this can worsen their performance.

In a recent survey, the organisation found that nearly three quarters of businesses do not intend to change their talent retention and development strategy in the next 12 months.

Dr Bourne highlights the importance of appraisals training: "The key imperative should be to identify potential and develop high performance, with succession planning and managing talent through periods of change being obvious priorities."

Associate director of Robert Walters Melbourne David Rolleston recently told eFinancialCareers that appraisals training can help managers prepare for performance management activities.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19180086-ADNFCR
