Appraisals training 'can help prepare managers'

18 May 2009

An expert states that employers must be fully prepared when it comes to organising staff appraisals, highlighting the need for performance management training.

David Rolleston, associate director of Robert Walters Melbourne, tells eFinancialCareers that while people sometimes approach these sessions in the same way they treat school reports, they can be strong opportunities.

He advises staff to use them as a chance to discuss an employee's future plans and opportunities for growth and development.

It is important for employees attending these meetings to be able to discuss what they expect the company to provide them, the manager holding the meeting must consider these fairly, which could require appraisals training.

Mr Rolleston advises that performance management sessions should be positive experiences, providing both parties with the opportunity to discuss each member of staff's career and progression, the news provider reports.

A new report by John Wiley and Sons has emphasised the importance of implementing a strong assessment process, which could require appraisals training to implement.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19175526-ADNFCR
