BT Exact conducts successful training
12 November 2007
BT Exact has risen to the challenge of training and overcome its 'capability wall'.
The company developed a best practice learning organisation in order to improve its IT capabilities and won a Personnel Today Training and Coaching Today Excellence in Training Award.
It also introduced the 'Learning Partners' concept "in order to grow the skill capability in areas of known demand". It first focused on routes to address immediate skills gaps, then moved on to more sophisticated learning programmes.
Various methods were used to get staff to share their knowledge, such as the creation of a Wiki portal, focus groups and self-study groups.
More than 500 staff have been through the up-skill and re-skill programmes over the past year, and this has helped to win new business. Also, several centres of excellence based around common skills have been created.
The judge said BT Exact was "one of the very few entries [into the awards] that focused on the bigger picture".
