Chrysler implements performance management changes

14 February 2008

Automaker Chrysler's chief executive Bob Nardelli has shaken up the company, placing more emphasis on the human resources department.

Nardelli, who employed the same tactics when he worked at Home Depot, has also put more emphasis on inventory management and customer satisfaction, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Chrysler has been suffering over the past few years, losing billions of dollars, and Nardelli, who has been with the company for six months, is making significant changes.

Cutting production and jobs have gone hand in hand with changes in HR.

He has put new performance management systems in place for salaried workers, including streamlined goals and simplified evaluations.

Performance management training can help firms monitor the development of employees, thereby boosting productivity.

At Chrysler, human resources senior vice-president Nancy Rae has been given more responsibility and higher visibility.
