Coaching 'maximises motivation and engages employees'

17 October 2008

Coaching enables people managers to discuss credit-crunch difficulties in a "supportive and involving" atmosphere, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Ahead of its Coaching at Work Conference next month, the organisation has pointed out that 71 per cent of businesses currently employ the training method, though only eight per cent formally evaluate its effectiveness.

Dr John McGurk, the CIPD's learning, training and development advisor, says this year's conference will explore initiatives that enable coaching to unlock individuals' potential and "drive a measurable difference" during difficult economic times.

"Coaching is uniquely fitted for turbulent times and is the best facilitator of change for people and organisations," he remarks.

The credit crunch and impending recession will require difficult decisions and tough choices, he continues.

Discussing such issues in the supportive and involving atmosphere facilitated by coaching will maximise motivation and help build employee engagement, Dr McGurk concludes.

As part of its demonstration of the effectiveness of coaching and "training the trainer" in businesses, the CIPD's conference will feature case studies from leading firms including KPMG. ADNFCR-1303-ID-18832104-ADNFCR
