Companies 'should audit performance management training'
26 May 2009
Companies should conduct an audit of their performance management practices, according to one law firm.
In a move which may prompt performance management training, Harmers Workplace Lawyers is advising companies to assess their policies, as the number of unfair dismissal cases rises.
Lesley Maclou, partner at Harmers Workplace Lawyers, said: "Employers should take the time now to audit their current performance management processes, identify the weak areas and then make sure the proper procedures are in place to minimise any potential legal issues."
She added that mishandling of cases can lead to legal pitfalls for businesses, highlighting the potential need for performance management training.
Tips offered by the law firm include identifying the standard of work needed from employers, introducing probationary periods for new staff members and effectively communicating poor performance to employees.
Last week, Dr Alan Bourne, director of people assessment agency Talent Q, said management tools, such as appraisal training, can be used to retain the best talent in companies.
GA Training's performance management training course helps managers to set realistic and achievable goals, give and receive feedback effectively and manage the performance of all staff. Available as a public or in-house course this one day programmme gives delegates real and practical skills that they can put to use immediately.
