Development: Better trained staff 'can contribute more'
25 November 2008
The UK's economy is based on the skills of employees, with better trained workers making a stronger contribution to success, it is claimed.
Alison Church, the senior conference and marketing manager of the World of Learning Conference and Exhibition, says it is now more crucial than ever before to invest people and their development.
Her comments follow remarks made to the Times by Alan Downey, the chief operating officer at KPMG.
The commentator said developing strong management skills among employees is vital.
Mr Downey argued that having the right people, equipped with the best skills, can help businesses through difficult times.
"It is incumbent on employers to provide an environment where people can expand their knowledge, as the return benefits will benefit the business as a whole," Ms Church continues.
Furthermore, helping people feel they are being developed professionally and investing in their training helps them feel loyal and happy, Ms Church adds.
