Employee output 'must be emphasised in management training'

24 March 2009

Management training should emphasise the importance of dealing with output rather than input, an organisation asserts.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, claims this will be a major step forward in the methods businesses use to improve staff performance.

He says that many companies treat their employees like children at school, setting particular times for the day to begin and establishing a "going-home time" at the end of the day.

Mr Flaxton suggests that management training should emphasise the benefits available through home working and encourage leaders to trust their teams.

He states: "If someone is not visible, how do I know they are working? How do I know they are not skiving off? I think that has been one of the biggest inhibiters to the changing working practices."

A recent study by the Work Foundation revealed that 65 per cent of employees believe their employer's primary characteristic is being rule and policy bound.ADNFCR-1303-ID-19090236-ADNFCR
