Employment and Skills commissioners announced
11 December 2007
The government has announced the list of commissioners who will form the new UK Commission for Employment and Skills.
This Commission will work to influence skills systems in the UK, which could have knock-on effects in areas of training including performance management training.
The establishment of such a body was one of the key recommendations of the report by Lord Leitch, entitled 'Prosperity for all in the global economy - world class skills'.
The commissioners include Jeremy Anderson, head of financial services at KPMG, David Brennan, chief executive of AstraZeneca, John Lewis chairman Charles Mayfield, and Sir Robert Kerslake, chief executive of Sheffield City Council.
"Our aim is to achieve an 80 per cent employment rate, but to do that we must ensure those looking for work have not just the drive but the skills to equip them for the modern work place," said work and pensions secretary Peter Hain.
"This is an impressive board bringing together a range of individuals with an outstanding track record of delivery in their fields. They will be driving change, helping to deliver economic competitiveness, social justice, and opportunity for all."
