Good management and training opportunities see company top poll

10 March 2008

Opportunities for personal growth, training and good relationships with managers were found to be top priorities of the company that gained first place in a newspaper poll to find the nation's best workplaces.

KPMG, which has topped this year's Sunday Times 20 Big Best Companies To Work For poll, received the highest score - 80 per cent positive - for personal growth from employees compared to other organisations which took part in the survey.

Staff at KPMG were also found to have the best relationships with their managers with a score of 76 per cent positive.

In addition employees said they found the training they received to be highly beneficial to their work.

Colin Cook, the company's chief executive, said: "We are all about people. We recognise that their proactivity is actually what provides our profitability.

"There are areas where we can go further, bringing people's development out quicker. We can get more movement and opportunities for people," he added.

The Sunday Times poll includes companies with 5,000 or more employees.

Meanwhile, a recent report by the Kenexa Research Institute (KRI) showed that measures such as goal development, regular feedback from managers and progress tracking have a positive effect on employee job satisfaction and motivation, Management Issues reports.
