Graduates want job training

02 May 2008

A survey has found that graduates consider formal training an appealing factor when searching for a job.

Research by Accenture has revealed that 49 per cent of this year's graduates consider it to be an important aspect of any prospective job, while 46 per cent stated that they would like a manager who will guide them and teach them.

The survey also found that 59 per cent of respondents were worried that their job prospects will be reduced once they graduate, due to the current economic climate.

Peter Cheese, managing director of Accenture, believes management needs to evolve and factor in what job seekers consider to be important.

"Generation Y is entering the workforce with strong values and demands that employers haven't had to address with previous generations. To be relevant to these job seekers, employers must find ways to satisfy their needs," he said.

Last year, a study by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development revealed that the UK had fallen from third to tenth place in the world for producing graduates.
