HR managers and employees see things differently
18 April 2008
A new survey has revealed differences in how senior human resources (HR) professionals see themselves and how their subordinates see them.
Research conducted by HR with Guts and Orion Partners found that 71 per cent of senior professionals surveyed described themselves as willing to take a risk while only three per cent of people beneath them believed their bosses would do so.
Overall, 42 per cent of those questioned believed the quality of HR in their companies was poor to satisfactory.
Jan Hills, director of HR with Guts, believes investment is needed to continue the progress that has been made in the sector.
"There are a lot of new things to learn and although there are many types of training and assistance that can help in this area, companies need to be willing to invest in their HR if real progress is to be made," she claimed.
According to the survey, 90 per cent of heads of HR saw 'solving business problems' as either important or very important.
The term HR is used to cover both the performance management and administrative duties within companies.
