HR self-service use increases

16 April 2008

The use of human resource (HR) self-service is being spread to different areas of people management, new research has found.

A report by Webster Buchanan Research (WBR) reveals that HR self-service now extends to recruitment, training requests and implementing performance review information.

Self-service allows employees to sign up for training courses, view past payslips and enter bank account details online, meaning they do not have to contact HR for paper forms or information about pay.

Keith Rodgers, co-founder of WBR, said that while self-service saved companies money, other factors were also important.

"Self-service can play a big role in helping organisations manage a broad range of people-related activities more effectively," he said.

Mr Rodgers also pointed out that the volume of data it produces allows management to analyse their workforce more effectively and help them manage different areas more easily.

WBR specialises in market research concerned with management strategy.
