Hartlepool station renovation extends to staff training and performance management
26 June 2008
Staff training is to form a key component of bosses' plans for a renovated power station in Hartlepool, it has emerged.
Representatives for the electricity outlet told the Peterlee Mail that although it has been out of action for eight months, a substantial element of the National Grid supplier's £35 million facelift fund has been allocated to boosting training and performance management.
"People look out for each other and we have got some cracking staff here," said acting station director Richard Bradfield.
"They have seen change after change and their attitude has been first-class," he added.
Mr Bradfield noted that over 500 British Energy workers are employed at the site, situated near Seaton Carew, with 150 long-term contract staff also set to benefit from the renewed training effort.
Global business bosses were told at a public affairs seminar in the Philippines this month that 21st-century workplaces benefit significantly from investment in outside training.
Relationship management specialist Marife Zamora suggested that in-house training often throws up a range of restrictions, particularly in light of advancing work-based technological requirements.
