Human resources boost company profits

26 February 2008

The importance of human resources in helping business profits to rise has been highlighted in new research.

People and the Bottom Line, a two-year study by the Work Foundation and the Institute for Employment Studies, found businesses were more successful when HR departments worked closely with managers, reports Personnel Today.

Penny Tamkin, associate director of the Work Foundation told the news provider: "There is a growing partnership between HR and managers. It's not just about writing policies, but working to embed them."

Mobile phone company Orange recently reported the success of a series of workshops attended by human resources staff to enhance their understanding of the company ahead of the launch of a new website.

Research by Employment Review in January revealed a growth in the number of HR staff over the past two years.

Two-thirds of the 151 organisations surveyed were found to have a director, usually with a seat on the company's main board, to head their HR department.
