Implementing coaching into organisations 'trial and error'
15 April 2008
Employers are facing challenges implementing training and development within their companies, with many going through 'trial and error' according to new research.
A joint report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and Ashridge centre for coaching found that developing coaching with the aim of supporting business goals was proving problematic.
The report showed that there are several different ways to provide employee training which have proven successful, yet many companies would like more assurance as to whether or not they are heading in the right direction.
Dr John McGurk, the CIPD's learning, training and development adviser, said that the common belief for practitioners is that it is the individual relationship in coaching which leads to results.
He said: "The most significant challenge for businesses is to develop the appropriate level of structure to enable coaching relationships to be as effective as possible. A one-size-fits-all approach will never offer real value."
The CIPD's research projects cover a range of different topics of concern to human resource professionals.
